Article | Can Glacier Melting Will Be Affected A Sagarian

It is true that 99 percent of us have never seen glaciers by visiting, only seen it on TV or the internet. The melting of glaciers has also not been seen directly. So why should we worry if the glaciers are melting, we are the inhabitants of the middle ground? Although we residents of the midland never even saw snowfall. But when snow falls on the mountains, then the entire midland region also comes under the effect of cold waves. So shouldn't we really worry?

Who is Sagarian?  I am Sagarian.  Yes, I live in Sagar, a developing city in the heart of India i.e. Madhya Pradesh and that's why I am Sagarian.  A few days ago I was discussing with an acquaintance that the weather has become unstable these days.  With climate change, the weather is also changing which we do not understand in our life.  Sorry, by the time we understand it will be too late.  My acquaintance casually said that the weather keeps on changing, what to worry about?  After this he told me that you keep worrying about the unnecessary climate and weather.  Hey, the place where we live is not going to have any effect here.  I said - wow!  Have you not heard the saying that even if a leaf moves on the earth, it has its effect till far away space.  So when any event happens on the earth itself, its effect will be there on the earth from this end to that end.  Now see, as glaciers are melting, it is natural to have an effect on the whole earth.  Hearing this, he said, you say glaciers are melting and it is a matter of concern.  Of course it would be a matter of concern but not for us.  We are living in the middle ground.  Why should we worry?  We live here in Sagar, far away from the sea.  Why should we be afraid of melting glaciers?  If the sea level rises due to the melting of glaciers, then the coastal areas of the sea should be worried, not us.

Shouldn't a Sagarian, a Bhopali, a Lucknowi or a Ludhianvi really be afraid of melting glaciers? Actually, glaciers melting are the most visible evidence of global warming today. Simply glacier's white surfaces reflect the sun's rays, helping to keep our current climate mild. When glaciers melt, darker exposed surfaces absorb and release heat, raising temperatures. Glaciers act as reservoirs of water that persist through summer. Continual melt from glaciers contributes water to the ecosystem throughout dry months, creating perennial stream habitat and a water source for plants and animals. The cold runoff from glaciers also affects downstream water temperatures.

Climate change means change in the environment. This change is coming to us in the form of unseasonal rain, snowfall, increasing heat and drought. Due to increasing heat, glaciers are melting continuously. From Antarctica to Greenland, the existence of Greenland is under threat. Life-giving rivers are drying up. The sea level is rising continuously due to melting of glaciers. Due to which the existence of many countries is likely to be erased from the map of the world in the near future. Natural disasters have also seen an increase in the past few years. There are both natural and human causes of climate change, but the results that have come to the fore in the present time are due to human activities. A big crisis is before us and unfortunately we are not aware of it. Climate change and air pollution are speeding up the melting of the Himalayan glaciers, jeopardizing the lives and livelihoods of 750 million people who rely on the water from these glaciers and snows. Melting glaciers add to rising sea levels, which in turn increases coastal erosion and elevates storm surge as warming air and ocean temperatures create more frequent and intense coastal storms like hurricanes and typhoons. Alarmingly, if all the ice on Greenland melted, it would raise global sea levels by 20 feet.

As discussed above, melting of glaciers is one of the serious evidence of global warming. This is evidence that global warming is not only increasing the temperature of the earth, but it is also changing the weather and climate. The effect of global warming on the weather means that there is a long drought and there is heavy rain somewhere. This has a direct impact on agriculture and horticulture. The problem of drinking water also arises due to low water levels. We have already seen examples of all this during the drought in Bundelkhand region during the last five years. Therefore, to think that the melting of glaciers in the Himalayas or the Polar Regions will have no effect on the mid land of our country is a delusion to oneself. That is why it is important for every person in the world to contribute to slowing down the pace of global warming. We have to understand that if the impact of melting glaciers will be 50 percent on the coastal areas, then the people living in the central land will have at least 10 to 20 percent at the same time. So, awake, Sagarian, a Bhopali, a Lucknowi or a Ludhianvi or we are citizens of wherever.
